Lesson learned – teach kids background before your visit

Fun fact about me that not many people know – I have a bachelor’s in religious studies.  No, I am no at a priest.  I studied world religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Native American Religions.  We are not religious people but have taught the basics about religion to our daughter…or so we thought.  On our trip to Rome, we toured the Vatican and Sistine Chapel.  Now imagine a devout Catholic tour guide showing the beautiful paintings of Michelangelo and your daughter asks, “Who is Adam and Eve?!”  OMG!  Horrible parent alert!  Don’t worry, she has since watched multiple YouTube videos explaining biblical stories.  Lesson learned – before visiting historical or religious sites, teach your children pertinent information prior to your visit.
