Lesson Learned – Pay for the water taxi in Venice when you arrive

We arrived from Venice after taking a long train ride from Milan (another travel blunder story).  When we exited the train station, we googled directions to our hotel and decided to take the 15 min walk.  WRONG!  Venice is loved for its beautiful water ways through town.  We neglected to realize that over each water way was a bridge, with stairs.  Lugging our suitcases up and down each bridge in the hot sun was torture!  Although the water taxis are expensive (about 50-70 Euros) it would have been money well spent instead of suffering with sweat and tears from my family.  (Another option would be to take the Vaporetto water bus – tickets are outside main entrance to train station for $20 per person for 24 hours.  The passes are good for the full 24 hours so if you arrive at 6pm you could still use them the following day until 6pm.  Or you can buy a 75 minute pass for $7.50.  However, the Vaporetto are usually full and may be difficult with luggage).  Lesson learned – pay for the water taxi in Venice so you don’t have to lug suitcases over the multitude of bridges.
